xunitcontrib release 1.0 (ReSharper runner)

This release provides a test runner plugin for Resharper 7.1.2, 7.1.1,, 7.1 and 6.1.1, targetting all versions of xUnit.net. (See the xUnit.net project to download xUnit.net itself.)

Previous versions of ReSharper are available in the archive release.

Also note that all builds work against ALL VERSIONS of xunit. The files are compiled against xunit.dll 1.9.1 - DO NOT REPLACE THIS FILE. Thanks to xunit's version independent runner system, this package can run against all current (as of 1.9.1) versions of xunit. If you replace the xunit.dll in this package, the plugin will NOT work.

To install into ReSharper:

xunitcontrib release 0.7 for dotCover

This release provides a test runner plugin for JetBrains' dotCover, supporting dotCover 2.0, 2.1 and 2.2.

It targets all versions of xUnit.net. (See the xUnit.net project to download xUnit.net itself.)

PLEASE NOTE: This is a plugin for dotCover. You DO NOT need to install this plugin if you have dotCover AND ReSharper AND the xunitcontrib ReSharper plugin installed. DotCover integrates with ReSharper and uses the ReSharper test runner (and plugins) if available.

If you do not have ReSharper, this plugin provides xUnit.Net support to dotCover's test runner.

This release includes the same functionality as the existing 0.7 ReSharper test runner release. The only difference is that it targets dotCover.

To install into dotCover:

xunitcontrib archive release

This release provides a test runner plugin for older versions of ReSharper. It includes:

Version 0.6.1 for ReSharper 7.0 (changeset e9e858e6bcec)
Version 0.5.2 for ReSharper 5.1.3 and 6.0 (changeset 753b24ba6c85)
Version 0.4.1 for ReSharper 4.1, 4.5 and 5.0 (changeset b8a531b0cf69)

ReSharper 7.1 and 6.1 are supported and plugins can be downloaded from the Downloads page.

The test runners use xUnit.net's version independent runner, and so should work with all versions of xUnit.net, without modification. (See the xUnit.net project to download xUnit.net itself.) Please do not replace the copies of xunit.dll that are distributed with the plugins. This will cause the plugin to stop working.

Note that although the plugins are no longer supported, the source code is still available, and each release has been tagged.

To install into ReSharper:

If there is an install-resharper.vX.X.bat for your version, just double click that file. Otherwise:

Download the zip. Right click and select properties. Click the "Unblock" button if it appears. (See here for more info)
Close all Visual Studio instances
Copy the appropriate xunitcontrib.runner.resharper.X.X folder to C:\Program Files\JetBrains\ReSharper\vX.X\bin\plugins (you might need to create the plugins folder). Alternatively, you can copy the folder to <RoamingAppData>\JetBrains\ReSharper\vX.X\vs10.0\plugins, where vs10.0 is for VS2010 (use vs9.0 is for VS2008 and vs8.0 for VS2005) and <RoamingAppData> is e.g. C:\Users\matt\AppData\Roaming. This allows for installation where the user doesn't have permissions to write to the Program Files folder

(The "xe" file exists to avoid clashes with other unit testing framework templates). Pick which one you want and import just that file.

This release adds support for running xUnit.net tests to dotCover 2.1 beta's Visual Studio plugin.

PLEASE NOTE: You do NOT need this if you also have ReSharper and the existing 0.6.1 release installed. DotCover will use ReSharper's test runners if available.

Close all Visual Studio instances
Copy the appropriate xunitcontrib.runner.resharper.X.X folder to C:\Program Files\JetBrains\ReSharper\vX.X\bin\plugins (you might need to create the plugins folder). Alternatively, you can copy the folder to <RoamingAppData>\JetBrains\ReSharper\vX.X\vs10.0\plugins, where vs10.0 is for VS2010 (use vs9.0 is for VS2008 and vs8.0 for VS2005) and <RoamingAppData> is e.g. C:\Users\matt\AppData\Roaming. This allows for installation where the user doesn't have permissions to write to the Program Files folder
Copy the file resharper.external.annotations\xunit.xml to C:\Program Files\JetBrains\ReSharper\vX.X\bin\External Annotations
Start Visual Studio
Go to ReSharper -> Live Templates and click the "Import" toolbar button
Import either xunit-ae.xml or xunit-xe.xml. The first file gives code snippets beginning with "a" for assert (e.g. ae => Assert.Equal), the second gives code snippets beginning with "x" for xunit (e.g. xe => Assert.Equal). (The "xe" file exists to avoid clashes with other unit testing framework templates). Pick which one you want and import just that file.

xunitcontrib release 0.4.1 (ReSharper runner archived versions 4.1 - 6.0)

This release provides a test runner plugin for older versions of ReSharper. It includes plugins for ReSharper 4.1, 4.5, 5.0, 5.1.3 and 6.0. These plugins are no longer supported, and are available for download only.

ReSharper 6.1 and 7.0 are supported and plugins can be downloaded from the Downloads page.

The test runners use xUnit.net's version independent runner, and so should work with all versions of xUnit.net, without modification. (See the xUnit.net project to download xUnit.net itself.) Please do not replace the copies of xunit.dll that are distributed with the plugins. This will cause the plugin to stop working.

Note that although the plugins are no longer supported, the source code is still available, and each release has been tagged.

To install into ReSharper:

xunitcontrib release 0.5.2 for dotCover 2.0 EAP

This release provides a test runner plugin for dotCover 2.0 EAP, targetting all versions of xUnit.net. (See the xUnit.net project to download xUnit.net itself.)

This release adds support for running xUnit.net tests to dotCover 2.0 EAP's Visual Studio plugin.

PLEASE NOTE: You do NOT need this if you also have ReSharper and the existing 0.5.2 release installed. DotCover will use ReSharper's test runners if available.

This release does not include any new functionality over and above that provided by the existing 0.5.2 release, other than support for dotCover 2.0 EAP.

To install into dotCover:

xunitcontrib release 0.5.2 for ReSharper 7 EAP

This release provides a test runner plugin for ReSharper 7.0 EAP running on Visual Studio 11 beta.

The only new feature since the existing 0.5.2 release is ReSharper 7.0 EAP support.

If you're mucking about with EAPs and beta versions and previews of operating systems, it's assumed you know what you're doing. For more instructions, see the release notes of the 0.5.2 release for existing versions of ReSharper.

Just remember - UNBLOCK THE DLLs! It won't work unless you do.

xunitcontrib release 0.5.2 (ReSharper runner)

This release provides a test runner plugin for Resharper 6.1, 6.0 and 5.1.3, targetting all versions of xUnit.net. (See the xUnit.net project to download xUnit.net itself.)

Copies of the plugin that support previous verions of ReSharper can be downloaded from this release. Note that the 6.0 release will be moved into this archive release with the next incremental update. The plan is to support the latest revisions of the last two paid-for major versions of ReSharper (namely 5.1.3 and 6.1)

Also note that all builds work against ALL VERSIONS of xunit. The files are compiled against xunit.dll 1.5 - DO NOT REPLACE THIS FILE. Thanks to xunit's version independent runner system, this package can run against all current (as of 1.8) versions of xunit. If you replace the xunit.dll in this package, the plugin will NOT work.

What's new?

This release includes support for ReSharper 6.1 and adds support for running the derived instances of test methods in an abstract class. See this blog post for more details.
